Now, OP wouldn't be upset if he was banned on a secure server. Secondly, the quoted statement says only secure servers (or hosts, in Dying Light's case) will be scanned for cheats.Ĭonclusion #1: Steam and Valve don't give a flying rat's arse whether you're cheating or not if you're running the game in an insecure server or host. OP and his friends ran the game as an insecure instance. Firstly, the developers can enable functionality to allow them to run individual instances of the game as either secure or insecure. Only users connected to a secure server will be scanned for cheats. This separates the cheaters from the rest of your community while still letting them play the game. It's up to your game to choose the policy on this, but typically games default to being secure with an option to let the user start the game as insecure. Individual instances of your game can choose at run-time whether or not they are secure or insecure. To spice it up, let's also look into the VAC Integration page on the Steamworks documentation!Ī "secure" game is one that doesn't allow convicted cheaters to play on it. TLDR: Wanted to cheat a bit in a non VAC secure friends only party, got VAC banned and lost access to all online features of Dying LightĪlright then, my friend, let's dive into the VAC EULA. Has anyone had the same problem and if so, did you manage to somehow make Valve remove the VAC ban from your account? I then tried turning to steam support for assistance is this unwarranted VAC Ban, as per usual steam support did not help in this situation and kept using the same old excuse of VAC bans being permanent.

Sadly that wasn't the case, as the day after I was welcomed into my account with a VAC Ban now prohibiting me from playing Dying light online in any way, shape or form, I have already tried getting invited by my friends to their non secure server but to no avail and inviting them doesn't work as the "Matchmaking" button is greyed out. The story is that 3 days ago I used Cheat Engine to give myself infinite ammo while playing in a friends only party, please keep in mind that the "Secure VAC Server" option under Options->Online was set to "NO" for both me and my other 2 pals while playing the game, therefore VAC should've been disabled at the time. We do encourage original content, however.Īs you have probably gathered by the title of this post, I have been VAC Banned by Valve from playing Dying Light online ever again for something as simple as trying to have some fun with my friends in a closed Coop Party.
